Former NSW Premier Gladys Berejiklian has lost her bid to drop corruption findings

ICAC investigates allegations of corruption in NSW. In 2018, it began investigating former state MP Daryl Maguire over allegations he used his political position to profit from property deals. Three years later, ICAC broadened its inquiry to include then-Premier Gladys Berejiklian, who had been in a “close personal relationship” with Maguire. It specifically looked into her role in helping secure funding for two projects in Maguire’s electorate of Wagga Wagga — a clay target shooting association and a local music hall. Why has NSW ICAC been asked to consider investigating a report into a proposed housing development?

The NSW corruption watchdog has been asked to consider a report that questioned if the state’s Premier Chris Minns disclosed a possible conflict of interest around the redevelopment of a racecourse. A NSW parliamentary committee referred a report about the deal to the Independent Commission Against Corruption (ICAC) today, saying there are “unanswered questions” about the relationship between Minns and a senior executive involved with the racecourse. Gold Coast schoolies will have pill testing for the first time

School leavers will make their way to the Gold Coast tomorrow, marking the start of three weeks of annual ‘Schoolies’ celebrations, where pill testing will be available for the first time. Pill testing at Surfer’s Paradise will roll out on week one: 16-23 November. Celebrations in this week are mostly attended by Queensland graduates. Pill testing has previously been rolled out in other parts of Queensland, at both permanent and mobile sites. The Australian Medical Association said it was “heartened” to see drug checking in place. The Government has approved three NSW coal mines’ extensions

Federal Environment Minister Tanya Plibersek has approved the extension of three coal mines in NSW. The mines – two in the Hunter region and one in northern NSW – have either been approved to dig deeper, or to stay open longer than initially scheduled. Environmental advocates have criticized the Government’s decision. Plibersek says emissions from the sites will be monitored through safeguarding processes.

Australian cricket results: men break ODI streak, women’s T20 sweeps series

England have kept their hopes of a series win against Australia alive, winning the third ODI by 46 runs last night. England’s captain Harry Brook was named the player of the match after he scored 110 runs off 94 balls. It was Brook’s first century in an ODI. Alex Carey was Australia’s high-scorer with 77 runs off 65 balls. Steve Smith reached his 34th ODI half-century with 60 runs off 82 balls. After 50 overs, the Australians had set a total of 304 runs for the English to chase.

Sydney ferries to be fully electric by 2035

Sydney’s ferry fleet will become fully electric by 2035, the NSW Government has announced. The current generation of diesel-powered boats will be phased out over the next decade, and replaced with “modern vessels powered by green energy alternatives”. The State Government said it’s also working on developing charging infrastructure “to accommodate electric vessels.”
